Entering into uncharted territory, Aspirare’s new programme MONOMYTH takes you to exotic and transfixing soundworlds. From the alluring and fearful soundscapes of Ana Sokolović to the playful celestial works of Caroline Shaw and Louis Desjarlais, programme director Victoria Marshall invites the listener on an aural journey at once familiar and otherworldly. We recast the monomyth — the hero’s journey — through the works of Francis Poulenc. Weaving together his secular and sacred music into a narrative framework, this concert will call the listener to adventure, venturing into unknown worlds reaching from the depths of despair and crisis to self-transformation and triumph.
Created and curated by Victoria Marshall. This concert is presented in partnership with Grace Centre for the Arts.
